Types of Nerve Injuries

The hand is supplied by three main nerves: median, ulnar, and radial. Lacerations, compression, and stretch injuries can cause nerve dysfunction ranging from temporary numbness to permanent paralysis.

Treatment

Nerve compression is addressed with release surgery. Nerve lacerations require microsurgical repair or grafting. In cases of severe nerve injury, tendon transfers can restore function by rerouting working tendons.
